Cuenta suspendida de nuevo

Hola, esta mañana me he vuelto a encontrar con que nos habían vuelto a suspender la cuenta.
He avisado en identi.ca y mientras sigamos teniendo el foro de pruebas, en ocasiones como esta se puede usar como medio de comunicación alternativo.

¿Y la suspenden sin más?, ¿sin comunicar nada a nadie?, pues espero que no sea algo que en un futuro pueda traer más complicaciones que beneficios.

He abierto un hilo en el foro de soporte de la empresa de hosting. Buscando por Internet me ha dado la impresión de que aquí hacen más caso y la gente que responde está más preparada.

La han suspendido a las dos y pico de la mañana y han informado a las tres. Yo lo he visto al levantarme a las seis.

El problema es que me parece que les está fallando el sistema de alertas porque luego no queda ningún rastro de actividad anormal.

En su foro cuento primero la historia que creo haber mencionado de pasada por aquí o tal vez se me haya olvidado de que después de más de un año cayéndose el servidor todos los días se arregló mágicamente el mes pasado cuando hubo que actualizar las versiones de PHP, Apache y cpanel (la herramienta que gestiona el servidor). Por lo que todos los problemas por los que hemos pasado en este año y pico o dos, que ya no recuerdo, no eran debidos a nada de lo que nosotros habíamos instalado sino a que el software de base estaba terriblemente obsoleto y eso sí que es responsabilidad suya reconocida.

Ahora, de repente, están creyendo ver sobrecargas del sistema que luego no quedan registradas e inmediatamente suspenden la cuenta. Esta es la segunda vez y apuntan como culpable al SMF (programa que gestiona el foro). La otra fue hace 15 días y entonces el culpable decían que era Wordpress (el de las páginas de artículos).

Mi opinión es que tienen algo mal. Seguramente el sistema de alertas. Pero mientras tanto no hay forma de vivir tranquilo.

A mi me pasó algo parecido con un hosting que teníamos, lo que hicimos al final fue cambiarlo por uno minidedicado (de los más baratos que hay), así si casca es porque se ha quedado sin recursos de verdad, no porque alguien lo decida unilateralmente.

Gracias por el aporte, Presi. Pero lo que ocurre es que me niego a aceptar lo que dicen. Vamos, que no me lo creo. O falla "el script" que dice lo de la sobrecarga, o lo están mirando mal.

A la segunda que parecían quedarse en evidencia en el foro me respondieron que me actualizaban el ticket y seguíamos hablando en el ticket (para que no fuera público lo que hablábamos).

Hi!

let me give a little background before explain my current problem. I'm a ModVPS customer since 2007. Last year has been like a nightmare due to almost daily server going down because memory problems. It seems that our WordPress installations needed a really high memory consumption and our memory resources was always around 95-99%.

I've contacted many many times with support using tickets but always tell me that "I must review my scripts" or that "I must upgrade to a bigger account".

Five weeks ago I asked for upgrading to PHP 5. The (friendly) answer was

Well that was magic, because since then (5 weeks ago) all memory problems has been disappeared. Without any changes at our scripts, memory usage it's not never over 40%. And there is no falls at all.

And after that background, my current problem.

One of our accounts has been suspended two times in two weeks (3 weeks after that upgrade) under the suspect of vps resource usage. First time [#1074217] staff tell me that was an issue with our Wordpress installation.

Antonio, might have been a spike in traffic or a plugin not working correctly.

We are not able to know exactly which script inside wordpress was just that it was wordpress.
Then I looked for logs, bandwidth and stats usage and did not found any unusual activity. Also checked that no files have been modified since their own installation to discard some external attack.

Today we have the same account suspended again [#1087845], while this time the guilty seems to be one SMF forum installation.

The log we have provided is the real time cpu/memeory usage of the account on your server. As per the logs , the script /home/fotolibr/public_html/comunidad/index.php was using resources heavily causing the load spike. You may have to optimize the script to reduce the resource usage.

The processes on your VPS are generated when there are visitors to the web site and judging by their number there have been many visitors at that time. Please check the logs which you can access via cPanel -> Raw logs manager for details what was being accessed and if it was a flood/attack or regular usage.
But, again, after checking today's activity, there is nothing that shows any extra activity. Bandwidth, stats, hits, visitors, pageviews has the usual but for the time we have been offline that it's empty.

About the account fotolibre.net it's a very small website talking about visits, traffic and users. Here you can see our today's stats (not the whole day online) of the whole domain (SMF it's on comunidad subdomain):

So not a big site. And no rest of strange activity today.

About our scripts, we're using WordPress and SMF updated to latest stable versions. With no hacks nor other plugins than highly tested and recommended ones.

Well, I always been requested by support staff replying tickets to "optimize my scripts" or check or review it. But I did it many times, I ensure that those scripts widely used at millions of installations are up to date as it works in many heavy traffic sites while ours it's a little one.

And after more than one year looking for a problem in that scripts that becomes an outdated software installation, I think I can ask you for a little help before keeping suspending the account. Because maybe there is not my fault again, maybe there it's no problem but with the alert system, maybe it's a cpanel issue or maybe some other problem that we can find together.

And because I believe that I'm a customer who trust in a company that can give a service and help when needed.

Antonio, we do understand this completely, but when the VPS load hikes, the entire node load shoots up which can cause the other services to be badly affected. This forces us to suspend the user, which causes the load hike, to avoid any further issues.

¿Where is that "load hike"? I just can see the hole while technical staff suspended the account.

And the same with the stats. There is no footprint at all about any load hike.

Now, I'd like to ask please that reconsider the fact that you have "detected" two load hikes in two totally different scripts (15 days ago in WordPress, yesterday in SMF) with the only match of your "detection system".

IMHO something it's wrong here but it's not in our scripts. Those scripts are not "our" scripts but stable versions of world wide tested scripts running in a very small installation compared to other WP and SMF users.

And please, bear in mind also that your technical support has been forcing me to review my scripts for more than a year looking for a problem at your side, and now they ask me again that "kindly check the script in detail for any errors on this matter".

I did spent all my time for more than a year trying to find the non-existing problem and trying to find a solution. Last months I have been workingin migrate WP installations to WP 3.0 multiuser trying to save memory consumption and before finishing it all was solved upgrading your software. And now I must spend my time again trying to find a mysterious problem with no footprint nor clues.

So, please, before keeping suspending my account, try to find the problem and if it's on my side tell me what is the problem. Don't assume that if there is a problem it's always by others.

Of course, if there is a problem on my side, I'll do the best for fixing it, but please do the same too.

Para los amantes de los culebrones. Nada nuevo bajo el sol.
Solo que esta tarde ha habido una caída de unos 15 minutos que no me han sabido justificar. Pero debían estar todos muy ocupados solucionándola porque han tardado 40 minutos en contestar y la respuesta ha sido "a mi me funciona" (sic).

Esto es más de lo mismo. Pero por que quede constancia.

Yes, I know. But I'm talking with a lot of different people. And when someone said this I reply that we are using standard versions of stable versions of world wide tested scripts. Then another one reply me that then can be due to an overload of users, so then I show the statistics and so on...

Not yet. Sure they assist me, no complains about it. But not solved yet.
They ask me to disable the only plugin we have installed for SMF (pjirc) and I did it, and we are waiting for some days. But I'm sure that's not the problem (if any).

Due to previous memory problems we were migrating WP to 3.0 and reconfiguring SMF in another testing domain at the same server (pedrezue). I personally was testing that plugin last week (just to test it worked), some days before you suspended the account fotolibr due to (possible) SMF peaks. And nothing happens

And also remember that two weeks before you also suspended fotolibre due to a (possible) WP peak.

Do you really believe that both SMF and WP are wrong when we are using stable single versions?

Sorry, but IMHO, you kindly should asking yourselves if it's our account that causes server overloads or if those overloads exist.

My problem is that you have suspended the account two times and there is not a clear reason.

You asked me to disable the plugin. Did help you to find the problem?

I have checked your VPS and the current resource usage seems to be fine. I have updated your ticket.

Resumiendo, un diálogo de besugos. Al final me preguntan que si "me ha ayudado" el desabilitar el plugin del chat. Yo les digo que el problema era suyo y que si les ha ayudado a ellos. Y responden que "ahora va bien" y problema solucionado.
